March 23 to discuss the proposed redesign of Route 8/ Howland Ave from Lime St. north to the town line with North Adams. Town staff and VHB engineers will be on hand to answer questions. Presentation and workshop meeting by the Board of Selectmen will begin at 6pm.
The Town of Adams is working with VHB engineers on a potential redesign of the Route 8 / Howland Avenue corridor from Lime Street north to the Town Line. The conceptual design proposes a “road diet” which will reduce the number of travel lanes and install a landscaped center median to create a boulevard feel along the roadway. Goals for the project include improving safety for cars, trucks, pedestrians, and bicyclists, moving traffic more efficiently, providing designated turn lanes, reducing vehicle speeds, and creating a more attractive gateway to Adams through improved aesthetics.
