Park Street Resurfacing and Columbia Street Sidewalk Improvement Project Update

Update Re: Park Street Resurfacing and Columbia Street Sidewalk Improvement Project

On Thursday, May 30th ,  contractor JH Maxymillian will begin curb ramp and sidewalk work on Columbia Street near Walgreens.  Work will progress north toward the Friend Street roundabout and is expected to take around three (3) weeks in total.  Expect intermittent road and lane closures during work hours.  Please drive slowly in the work area.

Park Street repaving has not yet been scheduled, but is anticipated during mid-June.  Residents and businesses will be notified as far in advance as possible of this construction.  Repaving of Park Street is expected to take two (2) days.  During the repaving of Park Street, there will be a detour for northbound traffic that will run along Myrtle, Pleasant, and Depot Street.  Southbound traffic will remain on Park Street/Route 8.

Park Street: Park Street repaving is anticipated to begin in mid-June. Electronic message boards will be placed on Columbia and Commercial Streets to notify motorists about the project. The Community Development Department will update the Town website and Facebook with project details and schedule once a more definitive schedule for the repaving of Park Street has been determined.

Repaving of Park Street is expected to take two days (one day to mill and one day to pave), during which time there will be no on-street parking. During this time, there will be a detour for northbound traffic along Myrtle, Pleasant, and Depot Street. Southbound traffic will remain on Park Street. Restriping will take another two days, however, the road will be drivable during this time and parking can resume.

Columbia Street: Work on the Columbia Street ramps will begin next week and is not expected to cause any traffic delays or disruptions. This aspect of the project should take approximately 14 working days. The project work includes replacement of curb ramps and crossings at seven (7) locations on Columbia Street from Valley Street to Burt Street to meet ADA standards. A new Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacon (RRFB) will be installed at the Burt Street crossing to improve pedestrian safety.
